CLEVELAND, Miss. – For the 20th year in row, Delta State University's Administrative Staff Council will host Staff Development and Appreciation Day on Tuesday, May 14 inside Jobe Hall. This year’s event, Balancing Act: Thriving Through Change, will focus on work-life balance.
“Everyone on campus deals with work-life balance and the Administrative Staff Council Executive Committee looked for a way to make this year’s Staff Development and Appreciation Day an event that would offer insights and training on how to thrive in an ever-changing educational environment,” Matt Jones, Chair of Administrative Staff Council, said.
Balancing Act will feature Amy Whitten, a renowned public speaker and leader within Mississippi. Whitten is a veteran executive manager in both the private and public sectors, who has also served the State of Mississippi as Counsel andCourt Administrator to the Mississippi Supreme Court.
She was named Mississippi's Woman Lawyer of the Year in 2000, and also received the prestigious Stennis Award for Excellence in State Government, the Governor's "Power of One" Award and the Mississippi Bar Award of Merit for her role in reforming Mississippi's court system. She is a past Trustee on the Mississippi Board of Institutions of Higher Learning, the state body that oversees Mississippi's eight public universities and their 65,000 students.
Whitten will host the keynote address before a series of breakout sessions aimed to provide knowledge and training in the areas of stress management, financial security and healthy living.
A buffet-style lunch with plenty of options will be served inside the Young-Mauldin Cafeteria before an afternoon of fun-filled games on the DSU Intramural Field.
