Changing AntiVirus Schedule Settings

Ever wonder why your computer slows down at a certain time of the day?  It could be your McAfee Antivirus software running in the background thus slowing your system down to a turtle’s pace.  If this happens to you, you CAN do something about it.  Simply follow these step by step instructions and you can reset the time that McAfee scans your entire computer.

  •  Find the shield icon  on the lower right bottom of your screen (located in the system tray).

  •  Right click on the icon and left click on the Virus Scan Console. You will see the window below:

  •  Double Click on “Scan All Fixed Disks”. You will then see the below image:

  • Left click on the Schedule Button:
  • Left click on the Schedule Tab at the top of the screen and you will see the following:

  • Here you can now schedule the task to scan by day, week, or month at any time. As a good “rule of thumb” you probably want to choose a specific day (ex: Thursday) and a time that you will not be working from your computer (ex: 5:30 PM).
    • Randomization: Allows the PC to decide when to scan within the allotted time. If you choose to enable this feature, you will be able to delay the scan for a certain amount of time in order to allow you to finish a task that is already in progress.
    • Run Missed Task: Allows the program to run after the set number of minutes. This feature should be enabled in order to prevent a missed scan. For example, in the case of a power outage your computer was shut down, your scan could not take place during the allotted time. This feature would allow your computer to start the scan when the computer is restarted (ex: if you set this to 5 minutes, the scan would start 5 minutes after the pc is restarted).
  • After these are set, make sure to select a day that the scan can run on.

  • Click Apply and OK twice and you have successfully changed the time your virus scan will run.

Please note that in order for the scan to take place, your computer will need to stay turned on. For security reasons, it is best to lock your computer by pressing the Windows + L keys.
