Dr. Paula Norris, professor of mathematics, and James O. (Jim) Brown, instructor of insurance, will deliver the keynote address at Delta State University’s 2012 Fall Commencement on Saturday, Dec. 15, at 10 a.m., inside Walter Sillers Coliseum on campus.
Continuing with Delta State University tradition, the winner of the S.E. Kossman Outstanding Faculty Award delivers the Fall Commencement keynote address. Norris and Brown were co-recipients of the honor this past May.
Norris joined the Delta State faculty in 1981 and is in her 32nd year of teaching mathematics. She serves as chairman of the department’s tenure and promotion committee. and is the corresponding secretary for the Mississippi Epsilon Chapter of Kappa Mu Epsilon National Mathematics Honor Society. Norris also serves as corresponding secretary and treasurer for the Delta State University Chapter of Phi Kappa Phi National Honor Society and chairs the selection committee for the Edwin Dean Memorial Mathematics Award and Freshman Mathematics Award. She holds a Ph.D. and a M.S. degree from the University of Mississippi, as well as M.Ed. and B.S. degrees from Mississippi State University.
Brown is an instructor in insurance and coordinator of the Certified Financial Planner Program. He began work at Delta State in 1989 and is in his 24th year of teaching insurance and risk management. He received the AT&T Mississippi Outstanding Faculty Teaching Award for the College of Business in 2008 and had the opportunity to lecture in Germany and The Netherlands in June 2012 as part of The Magellan Exchange Program. He holds M.B.A. and B.B.A. degrees from Delta State University.
Delta State is expected to graduate an estimated 400 students during its Fall Commencement. Each graduate will receive seven tickets for family and friends. Tickets are required for entry.
