The Delta State University Student Alumni Association is pleased to announce the Annual Fall Survival Kit fund-raiser. The survival kit is the perfect way to provide a student with support and encouragement during the challenging times of final exams. This year, the SAA accepted their advisor’s challenge to sell kits for Delta State’s international undergraduate students.
“As SAA director of membership and public relations, I encourage the Cleveland community, alumni & friends of the university, and faculty & staff to help us reach our goal of 120 Survival Kits sold. We want to sell 52 of these kits specifically for the international students,” said Alex Crosby (2014) from Memphis. “This is our first opportunity to publicize and organize as a group and I am happy to say that we couldn’t have started with a better one. Our international students travel so many miles to join the Delta State family – this is a great way for us to welcome them in, especially during this season of family and giving”.
The kit includes essentials for enduring the late night study sessions such as: NEHI products, hot chocolate, peppermints, bubble gum, popcorn, pen, pencil, highlighters, post-its, scantrons, and much more. Upon request from the SAA, Robert E. Smith School of Nursing faculty member Debra Allen has provided a list of tips to include in the kits this year. Allen has helped many of her students not only survive the rigor of nursing exams, but excel at them by encouraging them and providing them with good, practical tips for test success.
“The psychological boost along with the practicality of the snack and study items that these exam kits provide combined with actually implementing Mrs. Allen’s tips will provide the kit recipients with a vastly improved chance for exam, and ultimately class success,” said SAA Staff Advisor Cheryl Oleis. “Also, I strongly encourage those participating to write a note of encouragement to the student you are supporting.”
Students will receive their care package during the study week prior to finals, Dec. 10-14. Fall commencement ceremonies are Saturday, Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. in the Walter Sillers Coliseum on campus.
Each kit is $20 and is tax deductible. Order forms are available in the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni/Foundation lobby or online at www.deltastate.edu/alumni . Please contact the Delta State Alumni Association at 662-846-4660 or email firstname.lastname@example.org to place your order.
“I’m very proud of the Student Alumni Association student leaders for making a special effort to sell survival kits for our International students on campus,” said Delta State Alumni Director Jeffrey Farris.
The Student Alumni Association is a bridge between the Delta State University student body and the Alumni Association. The sixty plus member organization works with the Alumni Association in projects such as Pig Pickin' and Homecoming, and is also very active in community service. The SAA also sponsors a scholarship available for an upcoming senior student that has shown outstanding leadership while being a member of the organization ($500).
