The Delta State University Alumni Association recently unveiled the schedule of events for the 28th annual Pig Pickin’.
Activities kick off Friday, September 27 with the men's soccer team playing the University of Alabama Huntsville at Delta Field at 3:30 p.m. The BBQ Competition Cook Team meeting begins at 5:15 p.m. at Statesmen Park, followed by the Polk’s Sponsors’ Social at the Hugh Ellis Walker Alumni-Foundation House at 6 p.m. The Lady Statesmen softball team will play an exhibition game at 6 p.m. at University Field. At 7 p.m., the Alumni Association will host a Young Alumni Tailgate Party. Southern Halo will take the stage at 7 p.m., followed by Crossin Dixon from 8-11 p.m.
Saturday’s events begin with the 22nd annual Delta State Triathlon at 8 a.m. at the HPER Aquatic Center. From 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Phi Mu will host a Bunko tournament for Children’s Miracle Network in the H.L. Nowell Student Union State Room. Registration for the Delta Down and Dirty Youth Obstacle and Challenge Run is at 10 a.m. The cooking competition begins at 10:30 a.m.
At 11 a.m., the Statesmen Baseball team will play a squad game at Ferriss Field. DSU Day for high school students is from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., and DSU Band Day for alumni, students and future students is from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Mississippi Tennis Association Sport Court will also be on campus to promote youth tennis.
Activities at Statesmen Park begin at 1 p.m. with the Kids Zone, tailgating and live entertainment provided by the DSU Delta All Stars, DJ and the DMI student bands Ol’ Skool Revue and Delta RoX.
The Pig Pickin’ serving lines are open from 3-5 p.m. The DSU pep rally, featuring the cheerleaders and football team, is at 3:15 p.m. At 5 p.m., the BBQ competition winners are announced, and Delta State vs. Florida Institute of Technology kickoff is at 6 p.m.
