Over 200 high school students from the Cleveland School District had the opportunity to talk with representatives from multiple industries at the Careers 101 fair held by the Delta State University Year of Service on Tuesday, April 16.
Students interacted with the Delta State Commercial Aviation Flight Simulator, Delta Music Institute Mobile Lab, Robert E. Smith School of Nursing, Cleveland Fire Department, Pafford EMS, MDOT, Mississippi Wildlife and Fisheries, and more. AmeriCorps*VISTA provided bags to each student, and representatives handed out information, candy, pencils, and other treats.
Delta State Admissions Recruiter Reeves Gaddy talked to students about their interests, college admission requirements, and their hometown campus of Delta State. Bolivar County Sheriff Kelvin Williams represented the law enforcement field and spoke with attendees about the importance of a dedicated team.
Careers 101 was hosted at the Cleveland Career Development and Technology Center and was coordinated through the community projects committee of the Year of Service. Over 60 volunteers, departments, and employers participated in the event.
Delta State’s Year of Service is dedicated to recognizing existing efforts and providing additional service opportunities by the University as well recognizing service to the University.
