For the fourth consecutive year the Madison Foundation, of Port Gibson, has made a contribution to Delta State University’s Annual Fund in memory of Cleveland native and 1973 Delta State alumnus Allen Burrell. Burrell died on March 17, 2006 while serving as city attorney for Port Gibson. Established in 2007, the Madison Foundation was founded by Wiley Hatcher, a resident of Port Gibson. “Wiley said he wanted to help people in need and instructed us to give the money away,” said Madison Foundation board member J. O. “Joc” Carpenter. “We believe this tribute to Allen on the seven year anniversary of his death is a worthwhile way to memorialize his life. We hope that the grant provides the stimulus for others to make gifts to Delta State in memory of loved ones.”
“The Madison Foundation $25,000 Statesman Challenge is unique in that it is a challenge grant and one that the Madison Foundation hopes inspires our alumni and supporters to make a gift to Delta State. We invite everyone to help us match the grant by April 30th whether it’s a gift of $2 or $50,000,” said Keith Fulcher, Executive Director of the Alumni/Foundation. “Gifts can easily be made in memory of a loved one using our new online website.”
Gifts towards the Annual Fund match may be made via the DSU Foundation’s secure online giving website http://www.deltastategiving.org/Giving or by mailing to Box 3141, Cleveland, MS 38733.
