WHAT IS ORIENTATION?
Summer Orientation sessions are designed to familiarize you with Delta State University policies and procedures while introducing you to faculty, staff, students and campus life.
WHO MAY ATTEND ORIENTATION?
Orientation sessions are offered for first-time freshman, transfer students and parents of all new students.
DOES IT MATTER WHICH SESSION I ATTEND?
YES! Freshman sessions are reserved for first time incoming freshmen only! Transfer sessions are reserved for students who have attended another college or university for a semester or more prior to May 2013. The dates for these sessions have been chosen with the student in mind; however, due to limited accommodations, sessions are subject to close.
HOW LONG ARE THE SESSIONS?
Transfer Orientation check-in begins at 8:00 am and the session begins promptly at 10:00 am. The session will last until late afternoon. Freshman Orientation is a two-day event with check-in beginning at 10:00 am on day one and lasting until mid-afternoon on day two. Students are required to attend all scheduled events in order to pre-register for fall classes. See attached schedule for more details.
DO YOU OFFER SOMETHING FOR PARENTS?
YES! We always welcome parents to our campus. As a matter of fact, we want parents to attend the same session as the student attends if at all possible. We do not keep the students and parents together the entire time, because we have found that separating the two groups and presenting the information in a different format is beneficial to both groups. The new students spend more time with student leaders and the parents are with department directors more of the time. We all come together for some of the information and entertainment. So, Parents, please make every effort to attend...our goal is that it will only make you feel better about entrusting us with your student.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Freshman Orientation: $50.00
Transfer Orientation: $25.00
Freshman Parent: $15 per person
Transfer Parent: $10 per person
This fee covers materials, meals, housing accommodations for students, and all scheduled entertainment activities during your stay on campus. The total of your fees for the student and parent(s) will be charged to the student's fall semester account. You might want to bring extra money for personal purchases (i.e. Bookstore items, extra food, etc.) and parents will need $10 to join the Parents Association.
HOW CAN I SIGN UP FOR ORIENTATION?
You may sign up for Orientation by completing the online reservation form. Again, please note that sessions are subject to close and reservations are available on a first come, first serve basis! Please do not send money. Your student is automatically charged on their Fall semester account for all reservations made for Orientation. The money is non-refundable, so do NOT make reservations for multiple sessions without calling the Orientation director.
